Who We Are ?
Since the modern state of Saudi Arabia was first founded by King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, May Allah rests his soul in peace, the public health and disease control were among the government’s top priorities. The public health in terms of disease prevention and infection control have been the main focus of the Ministry of Health. Consequently, it was necessary to create a large-scale specialized administration to carry out the Kingdom’s priority through providing a practical, evidence-based approach preventing patients, visitors, volunteers, and health care workers from being harmed by avoidable infections. The General Directorate for Infection Prevention and Control in Healthcare Facilities (GDIPC) with Ministerial Resolution No. 51433 dated 25/5/1428 AH was established and thus the Ministry witnessed progress and development in the field of infection prevention & control.
The primary purpose of the directorate is to prevent or minimize acquiring healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and multi-drug resistant organisms' colonization through constructing policies, guidelines, standards and plans to ensure the effective implementation of infection prevention & control programs based on the recent evidence in various healthcare institutions are taken place, as well as to confront epidemic outbreaks among healthcare settings in various sectors (governmental or private)
